Our Café Story

Café Y is a social enterprise initiative run by Project Youth that was established in May 2014. The cafés objective is to empower young people with access to education, training and employment to determine their own future and thrive. Young people are given opportunities to do work placement and work experience in the café while being supported by the Café Y Staff and Project Youth Support Workers.

Over the last 3 years Café Y has supported over 180 young people to do work placement and experience at Café Y, lifting them out of homelessness, family hardship, mental health issues and substance abuse. We are also giving them the chance to understand workplace expectations and gain knowledge and skills for future employment in the hospitality sector.

The café is managed by our café manager Jennifer and has Natasha as our front of house operations. They are supported by casual young people all who have come through a Project Youth program.
